AmCham Upbeat on Thailand

Again, Thailand has been confirmed as being the most favorite investment destination in Asia. According to a survey of six American Chambers of Commerce (AmCham) in ASEAN, top American executives in the ASEAN region expect increasing profits, expansion and more local hiring in 2004,

76% of respondents expect 2004 profits to increase, up 20% from 2003, and 83% plan to expand their operations in Thailand – the only ASEAN nation reporting a 2004 increase in expansion plans. Although
the survey does not provide specific data on FDI inflows, it appears that more American investors are eyeing Thailand as an investment destination.

Meanwhile, the survey showed that the number of respondents extremely satisfied with local skilled personnel increased by a whopping 160%. Other areas of satisfaction included personal security, labor and housing costs, raw materials, and government stability, with the BOI and Central Bank as the government agencies receiving the highest marks for satisfaction.

According to AmCham’s President Tab Cuddyre, “The outlook for Thailand continues to be bullish among AmCham Thailand members, and U.S. companies see investing in Thailand as being profitable.”
